Abstract

This State of Knowledge paper summarizes existing research on how hydropower development will affect the hydrology of the Mekong River. Hydropower development is expected to modify the hydrology of the Mekong River and many of its tributaries by reducing and delaying wet season flows, and increasing dry season flows. The magnitude of these changes varies by location within the Mekong Basin, and is uncertain because there are differences among hydrological models and dam development scenarios.
